Who Owns the Airwaves?

Media Consolidation and the Public Interest

Created for my Journalism Law course, Who Owns the Airwaves? is a research-driven podcast project exploring how government regulation, deregulation, and media consolidation have shaped the modern communication landscape in the United States. The project traces the evolution of the “marketplace of ideas” from the Communications Act of 1934 and the Fairness Doctrine to the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and the rise of modern algorithmic gatekeeping. Designed as both a legal and multimedia storytelling project, the podcast combines historical research, constitutional analysis, and production-oriented narrative structure to examine the relationship between media ownership, public discourse, and democratic influence.
